As a University

  • Building, sustaining, and improving individual, unit, and university readiness and resilience.
  • Engaging the internal and external communities.
  • Developing University and campus plans, training, and exercises.
  • Communicating to the University鈥檚 constituents with One Voice.
  • Working with local, regional, state, and federal entities, and other key stakeholders.

As a Unit

  • Engaging all staff in planning and preparedness efforts.
  • Developing robust unit plans to prepare for, respond to, and recover from campus-specific and unit-specific emergencies.
  • Setting and managing expectations for roles and responsibilities for all staff, particularly essential personnel.听
  • Ensuring that any Non-麻豆精品视频entities that you work with and routinely find themselves on any of Florida Atlantic鈥檚 campuses have emergency plans that align with yours and the University鈥檚.听
  • Ensuring communication protocols are in place for staff to contact their immediate supervisors.听
  • Knowing how to get official information from the University, including 麻豆精品视频Alert.听
  • Signing up for 麻豆精品视频Alert modalities of text message and phone calls (all FAU-issued cell phones are required to be signed up for 麻豆精品视频Alert modules - text messaging and cell phones).
  • Having unit-specific emergency kits ready!

As an Individual

  • Paying attention! Don鈥檛 be distracted! Pay attention:
  • As you walk across campus,
  • As you get out of your car,
  • To your exits and places to hide when you鈥檙e in buildings - classrooms, offices, etc.,
  • To the weather,
  • To behave or things that are out of place. If it doesn鈥檛 feel right, or look right, it鈥檚 NOT right!
  • See Something, Say Something! What鈥檚 the 鈥渟omething鈥: it can be behavior or items. Don鈥檛 explain it away! Don鈥檛 be afraid to or wait for someone else to report.听
  • Having a plan (and options). When the time comes to implement it, evaluate your best option and then DO IT!
  • Having emergency kits, including medications.
  • Knowing where to get official information, such as 麻豆精品视频Alert! Sign up for 麻豆精品视频Alert modules: text messaging and phone calls!听
  • Activating the 鈥淕overnment Alerts鈥 feature on your cell phone to receive real-time notifications, including tornado warnings.
  • Seeking shelter/safety, then seeking further information, if you鈥檙e not clear about the emergency.听
  • Having a family communication plan.听
  • Updating your emergency contact information in Banner (students) and Workday (employees) so that, if needed, University officials can contact your next of kin.

Resident Students

  • Working with and informing your RAs or Area Head Office of your emergency plans, including the hurricane evacuation plan, and whether you will need accommodation assistance.
  • Having an emergency plan for you, any service animal in your care, your mode of transportation, and emergency kits for sheltering at a local shelter, or traveling and staying elsewhere.
  • Having a family communication plan and notifying your parents, loved ones, and/or guardians.
  • Preparing your room for evacuation, such as in a hurricane.
  • All valuable items should be covered in plastic and stored off the floor to avoid water damage.
  • All windows and blinds must be closed.
  • All electrical appliances must be turned off and unplugged.
