麻豆精品视频 (FAU) officially launched its Workforce Innovations Network (WIN) initiative in Broward County with a VIP Listening Session on Friday, March 14 on FAU鈥檚 Davie campus. Colin Polsky, Ph.D., associate vice president for FAU鈥檚 three Broward campuses and professor of geosciences, opened the event by stressing the university鈥檚 commitment to increasing its presence and impact in the county. He introduced FAU鈥檚 new president, Adam Hasner, who delivered his first remarks in Broward since assuming leadership.

President Hasner shared his excitement about the university鈥檚 future and emphasized FAU鈥檚 recent designation as an R1 research university, a significant milestone that recognizes the university鈥檚 high-level research activity. He also discussed his early efforts to connect with the university鈥檚 six campuses and highlighted Broward County as a critical hub for FAU鈥檚 growth. In particular, he noted the importance of aligning the university鈥檚 academic programming with South Florida鈥檚 regional strengths, especially in the ocean economy and artificial intelligence.

The heart of the session focused on identifying both strengths and gaps in the current workforce. Attendees gave the region鈥檚 technical skill levels a median score of 3 out of 5, while transferable (sometimes called soft) skills such as communication, critical thinking, and curiosity were rated lower, with a median score of 2 out of 5. These ratings prompted a wide-ranging discussion on the importance of cross-training, mentorship, and better alignment between educational institutions and industry needs.

Participants also explored the growing demand for flexible, specialized training in emerging sectors, expressing strong interest in industry-led microcredential programs created and delivered by the university. Many emphasized the need for higher education institutions to be responsive to evolving job market demands by offering training that is both relevant and accessible to learners of all ages and backgrounds.

In addition to job readiness, the conversation turned toward the broader role of universities in cultivating civic responsibility and purpose among students. Participants emphasized the value of integrating stewardship into academic curricula, stressing the importance of civil discourse, community engagement, and a sense of responsibility as essential elements of a well-rounded education.

The event concluded with remarks from both Dr. Polsky and President Hasner, who expressed deep appreciation for the insights shared and reaffirmed FAU鈥檚 commitment to working hand in hand with the Broward community. The session also included the introduction of Torey Alston, the new president of Broward College, signaling a growing spirit of collaboration between the two institutions.
