Bio:

Dr. Daphne Gershon is an Assistant Professor of Film and Media Studies in the School of Communication and Multimedia Studies at 麻豆精品视频. Her research explores how entertainment media shape social norms, power relations, and cultural ideals, especially in relation to gender.
As co-editor of听Reading Media: How to Do Textual Analysis, her work seeks to develop new and innovative approaches to the study of media texts in an era increasingly defined by audience fragmentation, personalization, and algorithmic recommendation systems. She is particularly interested in television and the changing forms of storytelling and representation emerging in the streaming era.
In examining the changing conventions of media and how entertainment media shape the social world, much of her scholarship focuses on representations of sex, a subject that is often dismissed and overlooked. Through a wide range of studies that include web sex education series in India, narratives of sexless marriage and male hyposexuality in Japan, portrayals of erectile dysfunction in television comedy, and depictions of sexual violence in Pakistani cinema, her scholarship demonstrates both the expansiveness and social significance that depictions of sex possess for media industries and society.
