麻豆精品视频 recently hosted the annual summer institute hosted by the Arthur and Emalie Gutterman Family Center for Holocaust and Human Rights Education (CHHRE), with more than 70 educators, school district professionals, community members and 麻豆精品视频faculty in attendance.

This year鈥檚 program, 鈥淲hat Did Women Do? 1933鈥1945,鈥 focused on the experiences and roles of women during the Holocaust and provided participants with valuable resources to strengthen Holocaust education in Florida schools.

The summer institute welcomed educators from public, charter, private, religious, traditional and non-traditional schools, representing grades 5鈥12 and a wide range of academic disciplines. In addition to historical content, participants engaged in collaborative discussions and networking opportunities designed to strengthen Holocaust and antisemitism education across curricula and instructional settings.

鈥淏y exploring the experiences of women during the Holocaust, educators gain deeper insight into the complexity of history and the many ways individuals responded to persecution, resistance, survival and loss,鈥 said Linda Medvin, executive director of CHHRE. 鈥淭hese lessons remain critically important for helping students recognize bias and become informed, engaged members of their communities.鈥

Educators who complete required follow-up activities are eligible to receive professional learning credit. The program鈥檚 ongoing support ensures that participants are prepared to bring meaningful Holocaust education into their classrooms and communities.

Through intensive professional learning sessions, participants examined historical content, primary source materials, and effective pedagogical approaches for teaching the Holocaust. The institute emphasized the importance of helping students understand the consequences of prejudice, discrimination, antisemitism and indifference, while fostering responsible citizenship and respect for human dignity.

The CHHRE 鈥 within the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters and a formal unit of FAU鈥檚 Center for Peace, Justice and Human Rights 鈥 serves as a designated site of the Florida Department of Education Commissioner鈥檚 Task Force on Holocaust Education. The institute supports Florida Statute 1003.42, which requires Holocaust education in K鈥12 schools throughout the state.

The summer institute was made possible through the generous support of the Noah Klersfeld and Sheldon Hechtman Endowed Excellence Fund in Holocaust and Human Rights Education; the Florida Department of Education Commissioner鈥檚 Task Force on Holocaust Education; the High Ridge Charitable Foundation; and the Jewish Federation of Broward County.
